Avi Furstenberg – Accredited Criminal Law Specialist

Avi is a criminal defence lawyer in Melbourne who obtained his qualifications at Monash University. He is an LIV Accredited Criminal Law Specialist. He was a partner at a Melbourne CBD firm where he spent 15 years learning and perfecting his craft from one of the most experienced solicitors in Melbourne. He served on the executive of the Criminal Law section of the Law Institute of Victoria for 11 years.
Avi has acted and appeared for clients in some of the most serious and complex cases in Australia. He has also represented clients at various Royal Commissions in Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania.
Avi is an accomplished advocate and appears regularly in all jurisdictions.
In 2008, Jennifer graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University (WA) and commenced employment with a top tier law firm in the marketing department. She then relocated to Melbourne, returned to her studies and graduated from Victoria University with her Bachelor of Laws in 2012. During her studies she gained experience working within Legal Youth Centres, Legal Aid, a range of law firms and government departments.
Jennifer completed her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Leo Cussen in 2013 and was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in the Supreme Court of Victoria in August 2013.
Jennifer has previous experience in a range of property and commercial legal matters including finance, mortgage defaults and recovery proceedings, commercial leasing, complex property transactions, commercial agreements, Wills and estates administration, intellectual property, employment law and civil litigation. She now focuses primarily in criminal law, confiscation matters and crime related civil litigation.

Elise Anselma is a criminal defence lawyer with Furstenberg Law.
Elise graduated from Deakin University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Criminology). She completed her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law in 2015.
Elise was admitted to legal practice in the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 2016. Prior to her employment with Furstenberg Law, Elise was an Associate lawyer at criminal defence firm, Dr Martine Marich & Associates. In that role, she had the carriage of a large volume of summary and indictable matters. She has instructed counsel in numerous trials and plea hearings in the Victorian County and Supreme Courts for a range of criminal matters including complex fraud, drug offences, violent offences, sexual offences and breach proceedings. In addition to her vast criminal practice, Elise also has experience in Family Violence and Personal Safety Intervention Order matters, assisting both applicants and respondents in the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.
Elise has spent a number of years in criminal practice, both as a paralegal and as a solicitor. She comes to Furstenberg Law with a sound understanding of criminal processes, and is well equipped to provide her clients with the best possible advice and legal representation. Elise has a strong interest in the provision of legal advice and assistance to those within the community who do not have access to legal services. She has volunteered her time extensively with the Eastern Community Legal Centre in Boronia since 2010.
Holly is a criminal defence lawyer with Furstenberg Law.
Holly was admitted to legal practice in August 2018 after completing her Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University and graduating with Honours. Her Honours thesis studied the operation of the Sex Offender Registration Act 2004 (Vic) and particularly its impact on low risk and youthful offenders. She feels strongly about the restrictive impact this legislation has on registered offenders.
Following this, Holly completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with the College of Law.
Prior to admission, Holly worked as a paralegal for five years in law firms in Melbourne and regional Victoria. This enabled her to gain an extensive understanding and experience in criminal procedure.
Holly practises in both summary and indictable crime. She is particularly passionate about defending accuseds charged with sexual offences, but her attention to detail ensures all of her client’s matters are handled with great care and diligence. She is committed to approaching each case with professionalism, compassion and dedication.
Katie has been working as a senior property paralegal for over 15 years. She specialises in residential and commercial conveyancing, development projects, owner’s corporation matters, subdivisions, commercial leasing, complex property transactions and other property related transactions.
Katie is also currently completing her Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University.
Katie strives to deliver the highest level of service and care for each client. Her experience and diligence are highly valued by our clients and the Furstenberg Law team.
Katie is also the Practice Manager of Furstenberg Law.
Frederick Paralas brings to Furstenberg Law, a wealth of experience in property transactions having worked in the industry for over a decade. In 2009, he undertook an advanced diploma of business (legal practice) from Swinburne University of Technology.
Frederick is highly experienced with the new electronic settlement requirements via the platform PEXA. In addition to residential property transactions, Frederick is also knowledgeable in the property aspects of other legal matters, such as estate matters, confiscation proceedings and family law.
Frederick prides himself on his attention to detail and dedication to ensuring his matters finalise with ease and comfort.
